Beauty Pill - Prison Song (Original Demo)

about

"Prison Song" was written pretty quickly, but it remains one of BP's most parsed songs (deborahager.com/notes-on-beauty-pills-prison-song). Personally, I think the strongest line is the simplest line:

"Will you forgive me for all the mistakes I've made? You've made some too."

We're headed into an age where the people in power believe there is strength in disparaging/discarding empathy. If my work has any single cultural purpose, I would like to oppose that.

This demo sketch has my warbly, imperfect singing. When we recorded the song for the album (with Rachel singing much more brightly and beautifully than I ever could), we changed the last line.

"Will you let me down?" became the much more plainly remorseful "I know I let you down."

I feel good about that change.
